Drab To Fab Dresser: Before and After

Purchased this dresser from a local thrift store and had a vision.
I love all the mirrored furniture that is so popular right now, but it is all so expensive.
Why can't I make my own?

I can. . . I did. . . you can too.

. . .and this is the after. See what a little spray paint (GLAM in a CAN) and elbow grease can do? A local glass shop cut the mirrors for the upper drawers and I had the crystal knobs from another project. I used Rustoleum brand spray paint. The key to the nice finish was to rough sand and use primer (I use Rustoleum grey primer) I made sure I gave it a good couple coats of primer. The primer is a really important step. . .did I mention how important it is to use primer?
Cause it is. . .really important. . .to use primer.

This piece pretty much inspired the rest of my daughter's room.
I will post photos later.

  1. Very cool piece!! Did you have the mirror shop drill the holes for the knobs, too? Sounds like your husband could do that, though. I'll bet your daughter is a happy girl with that glamorous piece in her room :)

  6. Very cool piece! Way to turn that ho-hum dresser into something fabulous...I've tried to spray paint furniture before, including the bedside table seen here: http://ktrefinishingschool.blogspot.com/2010/09/bedroom-redesign-post-4-picassa-mi-casa.html with much less success. What is your secret? Great job!

  8. Hi, I bought this headboard from pier 1 import, I just had to have it but fell in love with the whole bedroom set, which is like a very sparkly silver but to me it also looks like if the did some black glazing just so it can get into the crannies and then wiped it. I'm not lying but the paint looks so much like the dresser you painted, so I want to so bad redo also some furniture I have so it can complete my bedroom set. I know you used Rustoleum gray primer, and would really please appreciate if you can tell me how did you painted the dresser...if you don't mind..? Any steps to follow besides sanding, I always do that anyways, but anything else you used and colors you used to get that sparkly silver. I love mirrored furniture too but yup, it is pricey. Will really look forward in hearing back from you.-Thanks!

  10. Hi, Loving all your re-dos! Please, please, pretty please tell us exactly what kind of Rustoleum spray paint you used on the dresser. I have a huge wood-framed mirror I'd like to re-finish the same way. Many thanks!
